Sometimes dubbed The Bristol Sound because of its reputed place of birth, Trip Hop often features urban beats, sometimes drenched in echo and reverb to create a trippy, eerie, almost menacing sound. The term is often dismissed by the artists most closely associated with it.
This week we'll look at flattery in its more sincere form with five bands that readily show their influences while remaining unique and individual. They are Day One Symphony, Electric Salmon, The Chill Conspiracy, Tricky and DRT. I'm Jim Nye.
We'll start out with imaginative San Jose-based Day One Symphony featuring Vocalist David Knight. This is 'Isosceles'
