This week, we'll look at sustainability and cooperation. One of the searing truths of the music you listen to is that it don't come easy. Musicians create and if they are good enough or plain lucky, they can take their songs on the road and sell a few tickets. Independent artists ask only a bit of cooperation from us.
This podcast is entirely dependent on the Independent bands that offer up their music for us to play for free. In turn, they ask only that you buy a ticket or a song or a CD directly from them. One of these is the enormously gifted songwriter Kristin Hersh. Her blog at myspace.com lays out the many challenges an indie faces bringing a new CD to the public while remaining true to the music. And so we cooperate and sustain with the music of Kristin Hersh. From Sky Motel, this is 'Echo'
That was 'Me and My Charms' from the 'Strings' EP. We're featuring the music of Kristin Hersh on Idyllic Music. Highlighting the relationship between musicians and listeners. Here is one from her latest 'learn to sing like a star!' It's 'vertigo'
From Strange Angels, that was 'Like You'. You'll find tour dates and the rest Kristin Hersh's catalog at www.Kristinhersh.com Here is a duet with Michael Stipe from the Hips and Makers CD called 'Your Ghost'
That was another from Strange Angels called 'Heaven'
Many of you may take the time and effort in your own daily lives to go green for a sustainable world or buy fair trade coffee at the market but now an effort is underway to bring you fair-trade music. That means No record labels, no distributors, no middlemen. An agreement between the consumer and musician that the entertainment they provide needs listener support. It could be songs by subscription or donation directly from the artists. Many bands offer quality music via net labels for free. Others have their own websites with shopping carts. It's a direct way to ensure great new music in the future. It's a cleaner business model. A Cleaner Light.
'A Cleaner Light' comes from Sky Motel and 'Winter' from Kristin Hersh's brilliant new album 'learn to sing like a star!' Look for more on the Coalition of Artists & Stake Holders at www.Kristinhersh.com and find links to many free net labels at www.idyllicmusic.com. Thanks to Kristin Hersh for making her music available to us. Remember to support independent music.
